Health Information Exchange and Healthcare Technology Education: building better healthcare and jobs for North Carolina
Health information technology is a pressing issue for this session of the NC General Assembly. Health information exchange is moving from the drawing board to execution here in NC. With this comes concerns over cost, funding, patient rights, and privacy. Now more than ever we have an opportunity to shape the future of technology affects healthcare.
We are calling on you, experienced and passionate members of NCHIMSS, to join us to lead and direct healthcare legislative, regulatory, and policy initiatives in North Carolina! This is the time to make a difference and have our voices heard.

Speaker - Dana Simpson, How to become a citizen advocate. What you can do on advocacy day and throughout the year.
Education Session:
Explanation of our position on: , Health Information Exchange: building better healthcare for North Carolina, and Health Information Technology Education.
Instructions on how to meet with a state representative. What to expect and how to present.
9:00 - 9:30 Meet and set up at the general assembly (1st Floor Quads).
9:30 - Participant Meeting and assignment of representative meetings.
The remainder of the day will be spent attending your organization's table/booth, meeting staff and representative on the floor of the quads, and attending representative meetings. Lunch is on our own. The cafeteria in the legislature basement is a good choice.
4:00 PM or as soon as the members of the assembly go into general session our day is done.

North Carolina Chapter of the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS). The purpose of the Chapter is to plan and schedule meetings, which would provide Chapter members and other interested persons an opportunity to share ideas and exchange experiences in the field of healthcare information and management systems. We want to assist members of this Chapter and others in developing their knowledge, increasing their effectiveness, and maintaining high-quality standards of performance through continuing education. In that regard we will plan and conduct training and educational programs designed to promote an understanding of information and management systems work in healthcare. And lastly, we strive to develop and maintain appropriate relationships with other local and national associations and societies concerned with the improvement of information and management systems.
